Cutler and Gross

Not just how we see the world, but how the world sees us.

The story

Cutler and Gross was founded in 1969 in London by two opticians: Graham Cutler and Tony Gross. The alliance of Mr Gross' flamboyance and flair and the meticulous, detail-driven characteristics of Mr Cutler became the foundation for opening the first store in 1971, located at 16 Knightsbridge Green, London. Thanks to word of mouth, what began as a small but innovative bespoke service soon became a fully-fledged mecca for artists, rock stars, writers, and royalty.

Cutler and Gross didn't just make glasses — they were optical architects in pursuit of a product so intrinsically iconic that no external logo or branding was necessary. For over 55 years, the brand has been at the forefront of optical design as trailblazers and pioneers whose legacy has been much imitated, but never surpassed.

Made in Italy and Japan by experienced craftspeople who champion the art of making every frame individually, the Cutler and Gross methodology breaks the mould. Hand-crafted excellence, the finest raw materials, and a seemingly endless enthusiasm to manufacture styles that celebrate the clarity of vision — without compromise.

Today Cutler and Gross counts five flagship stores in London, Bath, New York and Toronto, with collections present in over 2,000 selected retailers in 50 countries worldwide. The Cutler and Gross customer has always been an individual. Eccentric maybe, a rare breed, certainly.
