Matsuda

Japanese craftsmanship at its peak.

The story

Mitsuhiro Matsuda founded his brand in Tokyo in 1967, starting from fashion and arriving at accessories. Matsuda eyewear was born as a natural extension of a total and coherent vision of dressing: every detail has weight, every object tells something.

Matsuda frames are produced in Sabae with artisan techniques handed down for generations. The sculptural details on the temples — floral motifs, engraved geometries, controlled oxidations — require hours of manual work for each single piece.

The brand has gone through periods of oblivion and rebirth. The contemporary version, relaunched in the 2010s, has won over a new generation of enthusiasts who look in eyewear for something closer to jewellery than to a fashion accessory.

Matsuda is today one of the brands most loved by collectors around the world: each model is identified by a numerical code, almost to underline the seriousness of a catalogue that does not follow the seasons but builds an archive.
