Mykita

Designing beyond the limits of eyewear.

The story

MYKITA was born in Berlin in 2003, in an old kindergarten building — hence the name, 'Mein Kindergarten'. The founders have backgrounds in architecture and industrial design, and they approach eyewear with new eyes: without an obsession for tradition, but with an obsessive technical rigour.

MYKITA's first collection revolutionised the concept of the steel frame: instead of soldering and screws, the temples lock into the front with a spring snap system. The result is an ultralight, flexible and visually radical frame.

Berlin entered MYKITA's DNA: every collection has something architectural, almost brutalist in its formal clarity. Colour is used with a graphic, not decorative logic. The collaborations with Maison Margiela have brought the brand into the world's most important fashion windows.

Production remains in Berlin, with a manufacturing site open to the public — a brave choice that speaks to total confidence in their own process.
